In 1936 Reuben Lott from Laurel, Mississippi opened Lott Furniture Company in Forest. He also had eight other stores located throughout Mississippi.
During his teenage years, Hilton Boyles began as a sweep boy on Saturdays and eventually became manager of the store. As Mr. Lott had no heirs, in 1959 he sold the store to Mr. Boyles and his wife, Dolia. After their only child, Billie Joyce, died in a car accident in 1966 and upon Mr. Boyles’ death in 1993, Lott Furniture was passed down to his four grandchildren, Cindy, Lisa, Jan and Frank.
